Puerto Escondido - Hiking, Loreto Sightseeing, Friends and Pizza!

Next day we made our way 40 nm north to Puerto Escondido and took a mooring ball for three days. Puerto Escondido is a really well protected anchorage, with a small marina and boatyard. It is a Fonatur Marina, which is part of a network of marinas installed by the Mexican government up and down the Baja coast. I was surprised to see how modern and meticulously clean the whole place was, Marie even called it "Sterile". We enjoyed the hot tub, pizza at the restaurant and laundry facility. We hiked up the big hill next to the marina, they have an extensive trail network on that hill which makes it quite interesting. We decided to rent a car for a day with boat friends on SV Felicita. Drove inland to visit the San Javier Mission, visited the Loreto historic district, had tacos for lunch, did grocery, an Autozone stop and came back to Puerto Escondido, a very productive day. While checking out the fuel dock we happened to meet SIYC Cruisers Karen and Mike on SV Somehow, we had never met them but had heard so much about them from Richard and Tim back at the SIYC yacht club. They were fueling up and checking out of the Puerto Escondido marina when we met them, so we quickly exchanged boat cards and promised that we were going to reconnect later at another anchorage north in the Sea.
