Punta Chivato… we are back!

We made it from Isla San Marcos to Punta Chivato in less than 2 hours. Leaving around 12:30 with a good 15-20 knot “Norter” wind that was still blowing.

We found shelter from the north wind and swells around the same spot as last year, deep into the bay. SV Maraki (John, Lucy and Charlie) was anchored in the bay. They were neighbors on the hard at Cabrales in Puerto Penasco and had splashed and left few days before us.

We had been to Punta Chivato last year but were happy to come back to hide from the Norter but also to do more exploring on the point with the abandoned resort, That resort was called Punta Chivato Hotel, it was originally built in the 1960’s and remodeled with a new start in the early 2000s and possibly for money laundering.

We took our kayaks to go ashore, stopped by Maraki and chatted with them for a bit, Made it to shore and went to visit the old abandoned resort on the point. This resort was abandoned a long time ago, like 20 years or more. Very cool, to walk around this abandoned resort and imagine the life when this was running. We found some undated promo video showing it’s good side, this was probably from the 1990’ or 2000s. https://www.facebook.com/heymulege/videos/punta-chivato-hotel/269979344542017/
